I’m reading Spengler’s Decline of the West, but it is a bit heavy. From time to time I have to stop and cleanse my pallet. So I got a nice fluffy book about Old Hollywood: Johnny Come Lately, the autobiography of Fred De Cordova, Executive Producer of the Tonight Show. Cordova’s book features a nice mix of vintage class and pomp. It’s a pretty brisk read as well, basically the polar opposite of Decline of the West.
The book contains a lot of insight into how one goes about remaining interesting.
This was a lot of work prior to the digital age. Now I can talk about completely unrelated things and tie it all together with a song.
